Women's Alpaca Wool Leggings: 420 Midweight

The benefits

Why Alpaca wins

Alpacas en los Andes peruanos

Andes-adapted for changing temperatures

Alpacas evolved where days run warm and nights turn cold. Their semi-hollow fibers trap insulating air, helping you stay comfortable as the temperature changes.

Softness starts in the fiber

Alpaca’s smoother scales give the fabric a soft feel against your skin. Comfort comes from the fiber’s structure.

Wear more, wash less

Alpaca wool naturally resists odor. Air your layer between wears, then wash it when it needs cleaning. Less time doing laundry. More time outside.

Single origin

Peru, start to finish.

Arms of Andes is a family company with roots in the Peruvian Andes. “Arms” brings together the initials of four siblings. That connection to Peru shapes what we make and where we make it.

From fiber sourcing and yarn spinning to knitting and sewing, production stays in Peru. One country, with the people and knowledge behind your gear close together.

Not Sure Yet

I really want to love these, but only time will tell. Tried them on once and found them to be thick and scratchy.

Excellent quality, warm and snug!

I received the xs midweight leggings as a gift and was pleasantly surprised. The leggings are warm and snug and withstand below freezing temperatures. They are a keeper for sure!!

Heading for trekking in Bhutan

Being in Bangkok one week and Bhutan the next necessitates a flexible wardrobe. So I bought leggings id several weights, one of which is these midweight ones. I haven’t worn them yet but they feel as if they will be very warm and comfortable. They feel perhaps the tiniest bit scratchy but that may go away once they’re washed.

Super soft and can wear for days.

I really love these. Once washed they were super comfy and was able to wear them for a few days without worry. They stayed up nicely too. I’m glad they are a little higher than some other brands I’ve tried for woolen base layers.

I will definitely be purchasing more.

Very warm and thick, but needed to deploy my fabric shaver

These leggings are incredibly thick and warm! Like some of the other reviewers, I found them a little itchy when I first tried them on. I turned them inside out and used my Brookstone fabric shaver to shave away the loose fibers right on the surface, which greatly reduced the itchiness! Initially, I was concerned that they would be too short in the legs for my 32-inch inseam. I ordered them in a size Small and gently stretched them before putting them on, and they were long enough for me.

Hi there! Thank you for sharing your experience and helpful tips! We’re glad to hear the leggings are keeping you warm and that the length worked well. We also appreciate you taking the time to share how you made them more comfortable, your feedback can be very helpful for other customers too!

Women's Wool Leggings: 420 Midweight

I absolutely love these leggings! However I had to go with a Medium rather than a Small, because the small was too short in the crotch to waist area and a bit too snug in the waist. The medium fits well until you wear them multiple times as they do stretch out and become a bit too baggy for me. Maybe they can adjust their small size in this regards a bit? Other than that, they are comfy and cozy.

Love them!

I love love these leggings! They are so incredibly comfortable. They fit great. They are really warm. It has been below zero here at times in the past few weeks and when I go outside, my legs are not cold. I wore a pair of jeans the other day and my legs were freezing. I can wear them for several days and not need to wash them. They have been my go to pretty much every day since I received them. I would love to buy more, but I don’t need them because one pair works so well. They are the best leggings I have ever bought, and I bought some very expensive leggings before. I also really like that her a natural fiber all the way through.

So so cozy

These are so incredibly cozy, it’s the equivalent of a warm mug of hot cocoa for your legs. The fabric is thick and well-sewn. I wear these both around the house during the cold months and outside, and I no longer fear outdoor winter walks! Some reviews mention the fabric can be scratchy- I experienced a bit of that but after a single wear, the fabric softened and it’s super comfy. With any 100% alpaca or wool fabric, there will be a bit of loosening around the knees, but I find it is way less with these leggings compared to other wool leggings I have.. I think because the density of the fabric with these and the tight weave just make for convenient stretch with minimal (barely noticeable) sagging. Overall, I love these and wish I could wear them everyday (but I have an office job). Don’t hesitate to get these!!

Keep me warm!!

I had to leave a review after wearing these to walk to work in -3F / -19C weather this morning! Two pairs of these alpaca tights layered under a cotton skirt kept me perfectly warm on my three mile / 5km walk to work. They've also been great for running in this cold Midwest winter! I've been wearing the tights with a pair of alpaca bike shorts underneath. I've found my thighs stay so much warmer this way, than the first half of winter where I was running in fleece-lined synthetic tights and sweatpants over the top when it was really cold.

Itchier than expected

The leggings are a good weight and seem durable, but the fabric is itchier than I expected. I did wash the leggings before wearing with a special wool wash. I knit with alpaca yarn without issues, so I am not sure why the leggings are giving me this reaction. Maybe it will improve over time?

Hi Erica! Thank you for sharing your feedback with us! We’re sorry to hear that the leggings are feeling itchier than expected. We're constantly working on improving our products, and we truly appreciate your input.

Thanks again for letting us know, and we’re here if you have any further questions!

super warm and well fitting, I love them

I first bought the light-weight leggings and t-shirt through REI and didn't take them off for a week! Bought this thicker pair to wear daily for a 12 day trip in Northern Norway- (no washing during the trip) and they were perfect. Warm, comfortable, although definitely stiffer than the lightweight version. The only constriction was around my knees if I squatted down, but it was not uncomfortable and I didn't notice the fabric stretching out afterwards. The weave is tight enough that they are wind resistant. I am 5'4" and ~128 and I got the size small, no complaints. I don't tolerate pants that are too snug around my waist and so I really appreciate the wide waist band that wasn't too tight. Almost too warm to wear inside if the heat is on- I traded out for the light-weight leggings when I got too hot. Super pleased with this company and their products.

I will say that these were a bit scratchy/itchy when I first got them- but that diminished a lot after hand washing. I did notice that some of the dye came out into the wash water but less with each wash.

Hi Jessica! Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We’re thrilled to hear that you love the leggings and t-shirt, and it sounds like they served you well on your trip to Northern Norway!

It’s great to know that the wide waistband was comfortable and that the fit was just right for you. We appreciate your feedback about the initial scratchiness; hand washing often helps with that, and we’re glad to hear it improved with each wash.

Thank you for being a valued customer, and we’re here if you have any more thoughts or questions! Enjoy your day!

Love, love, love these!

I love, love, love these! And plan to buy more. They're more snug than what I'm used to but they loosened up, just a little (but I wouldn't call it saggy), around my knees and hips where I bend, which I need in order to feel comfortable. The rest of them have stayed snug and it turns out I like that because it keeps me warmer. I've worn them for 5 days without washing and they are still snug and warm. I'm about 5' 6", 125 pounds and bought a small. They're just right. I'm definitely buying more as my budget allows. Thank you Arms of Andes for a great product!

Great quality

I'm very impressed with the quality of the garment construction and I really like these heavier weight warm leggings. They do stretch when I bend down and the fabric does not spring back resulting with 'rings' of bunched fabric around the knees - but not a deal breaker.

FIVE STAR! Best leggings/ base layer thermals on the market!

I use these leggings as thermals under my ski wear. These are the very first base layer thermals that have kept me warm. On super cold days I layer the midweight over the light weight and it's been better for me than heated thermals! The best part is they are super soft and nice-looking leggings. I have washed and dried with NO shrinkage. I love them so much I ended up purchasing 3 pair of the mid-weight. You can't go wrong these are the best for the money!

Not taking these off until spring

Very pleased I ordered these.

When I first put these leggings on I was surprised at how scratchy they felt compared to the merino wool which I usually wear. However, either they’ve softened up, or my skin has toughened up, and they are a joy to wear now.

They are very warm and comfortable. I live in a cold house and wearing these I keep cosy. I’m not taking them off until spring.

The fabric holds it’s shape well. Some fabrics nub up- these haven’t yet and still look great.

Regarding fit, I chose a large size as my legs are quite strong, and my thighs big, but I think I could have gone for a medium size. I have to turn up the bottoms about 3 cm. Would be nice perhaps to have medium and long for each waist fitting.

I’m thinking of ordering a lightweight pair of leggings to wear under skirts.

Warm Thick High-Quality

These leggings are all I was hoping for. I completely stand behind the mission of this company so that already is a huge win. The leggings themselves feel great on. They are very high-quality, super thick and warm. They were the slightest bit itchy when I first put them on but that feeling went away within a matter of minutes. I washed before wearing and line-dried - no issues there. Literally perfect. Love them. Thank you!!
