Alpaca Hiking Clothing

Hiking asks a lot from a layer: it has to move sweat off your skin on the climb, hold warmth when you stop, and not smell after three days on the trail. Alpaca does those three things by nature, which is why every piece here is 100% alpaca, knit and sewn in Peru.

Pick the weight for the climate you hike in: 160 Ultralight for warm trails and sunny days, 300 Lightweight for cool mornings and shoulder seasons, and 420 Midweight for high passes, cold wind and winter hikes. Start with underwear in the same fiber; leggings and joggers, beanies and gloves, sleeves and sleeping socks match too, so the whole kit works together.

Alpaca hiking apparel FAQs

What do I wear under hiking pants?
Alpaca boxer briefs in 160 Ultralight. The fiber wicks sweat and dries fast, so there is less chafing on long days, and it resists odor between washes.
How many layers do I need for a mountain day hike?
It depends on the climate. On a warm trail a 160 Ultralight is enough. For a cool mountain morning add a 300 Lightweight hoodie or base layer. For cold wind, high passes or winter, a 420 Midweight jacket on top. Take off and add as the day changes.
How often should I wash alpaca hiking clothes?
Less than synthetics. Alpaca resists odor by nature, so airing a garment overnight is usually enough on a multi-day trip. Wash cold, lay flat to dry.
