Free-Roaming Andean Alpacas

Alpacas roam freely in their natural habitat in the highlands of Peru. Their farmers never harm or kill them for their wool. Alpacas create small footprints that do not damage the fields they graze on. When they eat, they cut the grass, promoting regrowth.

SINGLE ORIGIN SUPPLY CHAIN

Where Was This Sweater Made?

We use natural local resources and a short transparent supply chain. Our mission is to teach you as much as possible about how clothes should be made. Together we can move the fashion industry towards a sustainable future.

Designed & Made in One Country: Peru

Contrary to industry norms, every step involved in making our clothes is done in only one country: Peru, the home of our family. Our production in Peru includes fiber sourcing, yarn spinning, fabric knitting, dyeing, finishing, and garment sewing.

From Peru, our clothes go straight to California or Europe on its journey to you.

Low Carbon Footprint

Manufacturing in one country allows us to greatly reduce our carbon footprint and freight shipping. This is a major step on our journey to becoming a carbon negative company.

Transparency & Traceability

We avoid industrial farming by working with co-op farmers in the Andes. Doing everything in Peru guarantees we know how the alpacas and the workers involved are being treated.

Good fit, itchy on skin

There is no doubt the first touch out of the box is soft and luxurious. However once I put it on it was very itchy on the skin. I one half a dozen smartwool shirts, 100% pure wool and those are much softer when wearing.
I'm hoping if I wear this a few times it will soften up on the skin or I'll get used to it? At the price point I was expecting very soft on my skin!

The fit is good, I purchased a large and I am 6'2, 185lbs. I though the wrist opening was a bit too loose and could be snugger.

PERFECTION

I sleep in these garments with the bedroom at 50F. I wear them mountain biking and bike commuting in winter weather, and stay warm enough but never get overheated or sweaty. I don't want to, but I will remove them to shake/air them out and grab an occasional shower. I've tried merino blends (100% merino is too fragile). I've tried hemp blends (gets that funky pit smell from even day of wear just like any plastic workout garbage).

Across 4 seasons and various activities, 100% cotton, 100% linen, and 100% ARMS OF ANDES alpaca wool complete me as a non-nudist. I'm so done with synthetic textiles. ALL HAIL THE ALPACA

Some may worry about itchiness. One gentle cold wash was enough the tame the itchiness when brand new..

Base layer

It is way too scratchy. I cannot wear it as a base layer.

Great shirt!

It was a gift for my stepson. He is one of my favorite people, so I love to make him smile! He said this one is great and he is an experienced alpaca shopper. This gift made him happy!

Warm, comfy, & well-built

Very pleased with my Alpaca wool sweater from Arms of the Andes.
This garment is high-quality, well-sewn, clearly durable.
It's also comfy, compact, incredibly warm for weight, and good looking, too.
Highly recommended.

Hi David,
We’re so happy to hear that! It sounds like your Alpaca wool sweater is everything you hoped for cozy, durable, and stylish. Thank you for sharing your experience and recommending it, we truly appreciate it!

Impressed

I’m very impressed with the weight and feel of alpaca 300 base layer. I’m looking forward for winter. It is softer than the merinoI have been using. I can’t wait until the other 420 weights are in production again.

HI John
Thanks so much for your feedback! We're really happy to hear that our garments exceeded your expectations. It’s great to know you’re enjoying the feel and warmth of the Alpaca 300 base layer, we can’t wait to have the 420 weights back in production for you too!

BEWARE: Extremely itchy!

They claim this to be „The finest Alpaca Wool with naturally smooth fiber scales minimize felting and ensure luxurious softness on your skin without itching.“

I received the item with high hopes but now I am simply frustrated. It is EXTEMELEY itchy. I would say at least 5 to 10 times more itchy than any piece of merino wool from any brand that I own. Feels like a barbwire chainmail. There is no way I am going to wear this.

Now I need to send it all the way back to america on my own cost. If this brand would really want to be sustainable they should be transparent with this. And they should have a warehouse in europe instead of shipping back and forth overseas.

Hi Jan,
Thank you for your detailed feedback!. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet expectations. Comfort is incredibly personal, and while many customers find alpaca wool gentle on the skin, we know it doesn’t feel that way for everyone.
We also hear your concerns about the return process and international shipping. Sustainability and customer experience are both very important to us, and your input highlights areas where we need to do better. We’re constantly working to improve our service, and feedback like yours is incredibly helpful in guiding those improvements.

HONEST REVIEW

I have not worn the garment yet. It is slightly heavier than my merino wool L.L.Bean 250 mid-weight made in china.
I have many pairs of alpaca socks of different weights from alpaca direct and I love each of them dearly. Bean's I have used many of their products over my lifetime and they have been superb in all cases. My wife gifted me a watch cap and neck wrap in a beautiful blend of multicolor alpaca yarn that she made for me. Stunning to look at.
My only dislike is the retail cost. Maybe coupons for good reviews could incentivize happy customers to purchase more.

Hi David,

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback! We’re so glad to hear you enjoy our products. It’s wonderful that your wife made you such a beautiful watch cap and neck wrap – what a thoughtful gift!

We understand your concern about the retail cost. We strive to provide high-quality products, and we’re always working to offer the best value to our customers. Your suggestion about coupons is a great idea, and we’ll certainly consider it moving forward.

We hope you’ll give the garment a try soon – we’re confident it will meet your expectations just like the socks!

thumbs up ...

Feels great and is comfortable to wear ... it's hard for me to take it off;-)). My only regret is that there aren't more colors. I bought the gray one from a third party vendor this past week.

Hi George,
We're so glad to hear you're loving the comfort! It sounds like it's become a new favorite. Thanks for your feedback about the colors, hopefully, we can offer more options in the future!

Stunningly Great

I've forever switched from Merino wool to Alpaca. The alpaca is wool is the most comfortable fabric against my skin. The warmth factor is noticeably greater than wool; so far, the fabric seems to be longer lasting than wool. I purchased this product based on an alpaca blanket I bought a while back, which had amazing weight to warmth ratio. There is so much hype around specialty fabrics, but this fabric is the best I've every had. I use this for backpacking, but also every day use based on it's comfort and warmth. Highly recommended.

False advertising charged over double for a tshirt

The website states on orders to Canada that customs and duties already included in order. I was charged an additional $104.91 on a $127 tshirt in addition to $20.78 shipping charges. Multiple messages have been sent and still not resolved. So the $127 t-shirt cost me $267.95 when the website clearly states customs and duty already included. I have been trying to resolve this for over 2 weeks with no resolution and no one responding to my messages anymore.

Hi Donna!
We sincerely apologize for the unexpected customs charges and the delay in resolving this issue. We're glad that our team could work things out for you, and we truly regret the experience you’ve had. Your feedback is important to us, and we appreciated your patience while we worked to improve our service.
