Fabric Care Guide
Thanks to alpaca wool’s naturally antibacterial and odor-resistant properties, you won’t need to wash your garment as often as synthetic clothing. In fact, most of the time, simply airing it out overnight is enough to freshen it up. Follow the guide below to care for your alpaca wool garment:
- Hand wash or machine wash on a gentle/wool cycle in cold water (50-68°F) using a mild wool-safe or pH-neutral detergent.
- Wash with similar colors.
- Do not bleach or use fabric softener.
- Do not tumble dry.
- Lay flat to dry and reshape while damp.
- Cool iron if needed.
- Store folded in a cool, dry and breathable space.
- Avoid hanging to prevent stretching.
- Try not to twist or wring the fabric too much.
Naturally Dyed Clothes
Although natural dyes are environmentally friendly, protective to skin and give pleasing colors, they do not bond with textile fiber materials like synthetic dyes. This may lead to slight color changes when sweating or rubbing and the colors may bleed a little.
We recommend using naturally colored clothing with other dark clothing or equipment like backpacks. We also recommend washing your clothing as little as possible, to ensure that the unique color lasts as long as possible.
Be cautious when using citric acid, as it may naturally bleach botanically dyed fabrics.

Conditions for Returns
A $5.00 return shipping fee will be deducted from your refund or charged when processing domestic returns.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused, unwashed and in the same condition you received it. Original packaging is not required. For hygienic reasons, boxer briefs, panties and thongs are final sale and cannot be returned or refunded.
For international orders, buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. However, if a wrong or defective garment is received, we will cover the return shipping costs when the local government postal service is used.
Refunds or exchanges cannot be processed if these conditions are not met.

Refunds (if applicable)
Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund. If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within a certain amount of days.
There are certain situations where only partial refunds are granted (if applicable): Any item that is returned more than 15 days after delivery.
Gift cards are non-refundable. Purchases made with gift cards can be returned and exchanged for store credit.
Warranty
Arms of Andes provides a full refund on any defected item. Natural wear and tear, including pilling and abrasion, is not covered by the Warranty. Damage done by user including but not limited to rips and tears are not covered by the Warranty, including any damage done during any washing not according to our posted washing instructions. Damages will be assessed by Arms of Andes to determine if they fall under the Warranty.

About Alpaca
Why use alpaca wool?
While merino wool has long been the outdoor industry’s benchmark for high-performance natural fiber, alpaca wool has features that make it perfect for use in the outdoors. Research shows that alpaca wool is actually a higher performing natural fiber than merino wool, with improved comfort, moisture-wicking and temperature regulation properties. We also believe that alpaca wool is the most sustainable fiber available on the market, due to the way it is produced, sourced and turned into garments.
Where are Arms of Andes clothes made?
Arms of Andes technical outdoor apparel is made from start to finish in Peru.
Why does Arms of Andes make clothing in Peru?
As the world’s main exporter of alpaca fiber, Peru has the largest population of alpacas in the world and is the seat of knowledge about alpaca wool. Working in Peru allows us to ensure the traceability and quality of our products, as well as reduce our carbon footprint, particularly when considering shipping. Manufacturing the garments close to the source of the alpaca wool means that all transport during production is overland, so we only use air transport for distribution and shipping the final products to you.
Why aren’t other technical products made of alpaca wool?
Alpaca wool is expensive and historically thought of as a fiber for fashion, so alpaca clothing brands have generally focused on luxury and style instead of performance. At Arms of Andes, we have developed a unique fabric made entirely from 100% alpaca wool (the highest grade of alpaca fiber), which performs even better than merino wool in the outdoors.
How is alpaca wool different to merino wool, synthetics and other fabrics?
When compared to merino wool, synthetics and cotton, alpaca wool has been shown to be the softest, lightest, and most breathable option. It also regulates body temperature (in both the heat and the cold) and wicks sweat away from the skin even better than merino wool. Further, the structure of the individual fibers means that alpaca wool is softer and more comfortable than merino. You can find more information on our Alpaca Wool Performance page.
Is alpaca wool itchy?
Not for most people. Sheep’s wool has a reputation for being itchy as it contains a naturally occurring grease called lanolin, that can cause allergic reactions on human skin. Wool fibers also have microscopic “scales” on them which protrude from the surface and cause woolen fabrics to feel prickly or itchy. Alpacas produce tiny amounts of lanolin compared to sheep, reducing the probability of allergic reactions, and scales on alpaca wool fibers are smaller and protrude less, meaning that alpaca clothing feels much softer against the skin.

How do I know what size to choose?
The sizing of Arms of Andes products is based on the international sizing system and you can see the basis of these sizes in our Size Guide.
How do I care for my alpaca wool garments?
Alpaca wool doesn’t need washing as much as other fibers, as it is highly odor-resistant and has anti-bacterial properties. When Arms of Andes garments do need a wash, we recommend hand washing in cool water with a mild detergent and air-drying flat. Chemicals like fabric softeners and bleach are not needed and garments shouldn’t be dry-cleaned or tumble dried. You can see full care instructions here.
Is Alpaca wool just suitable for cold weather?
No! A key feature of alpaca wool is thermal regulation, which means it keeps you warm in cold weather and helps cool you down in the heat. Our fabrics are also highly breathable, and wick sweat away from the body, so you’ll be comfortable in our lighter base layers, even on hard hikes in hot weather.
What is the difference between 230 and 420 fabrics?
These numbers refer to the fabric weight system, indicating how much one square meter of alpaca wool fabric weighs. In functional terms, this means that the higher the number, the warmer the clothing will be. Garments with a 420 weight are the thickest and warmest and work well in cold conditions, while the 230 garments are lightweight and suitable for use in all but the warmest conditions. On the other hand, 110 garments are perfect anywhere: underneath other layers for added warmth on a cold hike or on their own in a hot yoga class.
What does layering mean?
Layering is a way of dressing to account for the varying conditions you will encounter during any outdoor activity. Layering starts with a thinner base layer, that sits next to your skin, followed by additional layers, of the same or increasing thickness. Using several thinner layers has been shown to be warmer than one thick layer, as a layer of warm air gets trapped between each piece of clothing, helping to keep you warm. Layering also means your clothing will feel less bulky, giving greater freedom of movement. It is important that the layers fit snugly – especially the one next to your skin – as this helps to maintain heat and improves the moisture-wicking capabilities of your layering system. Another benefit of layering is that you can adapt to changing conditions when you’re out and about, taking layers off as the day warms up and putting them on again when you feel cold.

I prefer natural dyes and fabrics. So impressed upon reading the beginning of the item description that I continued reading the rest faster than normal and didn't notice that navy was not made with natural dyes. It arrived and I waited to use it because I wanted to combine it with fully holistical tough denim jeans (not sure if they exist, still looking), for when i go camping in the icy mountains. Upon trying to order the pacas long sleeve shirt I realized that navy wasn't natural dyes. I only tried it on for 2 minutes and then put it in a cool dark artificial place. I don't understand why it can't be returned, especially if the fabric is antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral. The seller is sweet and does her best to reply. Currently waiting to see pictures of the natural blue. If anyone wants this I will sell it discounted.
Better than merinowool leggings I have for its comfortability and durability. I love it and definitely recommend it to leggings lovers.

I really like these joggers. It’s become my sleepwear this chilly season. It’s lightweight but warm enough to keep me cozy. The pockets are a bit shallow and after a few washes it does look a bit fuzzy even after following the launder instructions. I’m hoping it will last a long time. Its softness is pretty incomparable with other materials. I would definitely recommend it.
I am a curvy 5’9” tall woman..these fit perfectly…just the right length. At first they seemed a little scratchy but after one wash they softened up. The color is rich.
very impressed with these joggers. expected very thin but they are fairly normal in thickness. they fit well, in the expected size, but still easily pull over my ankles for warmer feet in bed. they don't look bad on their own indoors. my intention was to keep them for use only as winter thermals, as under-trousers or sleeping trousers outdoors, but i've been wearing them for everything to really test them - they are quite immune to pilling compared to lower quality wools, which is great. i hope you will some day do your heavier (midweight) joggers in natural colours also.

Really high quality. I can’t seem to take them off and now or wear anything else…!
They fit a little snug, but keep you warm. I’m 6’2” with a slim frame and the large worked great. The waistband is comfy and still holds my pants up with my phone and keys in my pocket, but they do sag a little. I’m concerned as the waistband stretches out they may sag more, if that happens I'll try dipping the waistband in hot water
These are just the best joggers in the world.
So I am comparing this against Woolly joggers that are 100% merino wool. They are SUPER warm. I could see how these could double as long johns. There is no contest, the Alpacas are much warmer. However, there is a little bit of itch with them, while the woolly merino wools have no itch. Further, the Merino wool joggers are more flexible. They are good to keep you warm but they work better when it’s warm out and you dont need to be as hot. Where as the alpacas keep me too warm.
Also, I got pacas socks from another company. They are incredible. Very soft. Like cashmere. However, they are only 50% alpaca. So, I don’t know if 100% alpaca wool can be as itch free as 100% merino wool. So far, these joggers and the v-neck alpaca t-shirt I got are definitely more itchy. Also, the V-neck t-shirts run small. I normally wear an X-large t-shirt, but with the way this shirt fits, I would need a XX-large. It manages to be super thin and very warm. But again, I find it runs way warmer than the merino wool in warm weather. So for me, that limits these joggers and the t-shirt to cool weather use.
I got these to wear as “house pants/sleeping pants” and couldn’t be more pleased. Incredibly comfortable. They haven’t yet been too hot or not warm enough. I love them. I don’t ever want to wear anything else as pajama pants. I appreciate the wide waistband. The only two things that I think might be able to be improved is the pockets and waist band. The pockets are big enough but the holes are on the small side. I am super careful when getting things out of my pockets that I am not stretching out the hole because I could see that being the eventual point of failure of the stitching. They could make the holes bigger and that would be good. The other thing is the waistband is nice and wide but loose in the sleeve holding it. A few times it has tried to flip/twist and I have had to fix it by massaging the edge back. It could be fixed by being stitched into place in a few spots. I may do that if it gets worse but so far it isn’t too bad. Keep it up and don’t stop making these...in 10-20 years when these wear out I will need another pair :)

Better than expected. Almost over not getting dirty, I'm thinking going last a long time.
These quickly became my favorite pair of pants. They are very comfortable and surprisingly stretchy, in addition to feeling lightweight. I wore them a few days ago and became marveled at how it repels water, as I stood in the rain for a bit longer than anyone would consider to stand in the rain and saw as the raindrops practically bounced off the fabric, creating a sight that was similar to diamonds in the dark or a starry sky. This experience was cut short however, because it is not fully water repellent, therefore the pants started to absorb the water and I had to get back inside before I ended up drenched in rain. They dried pretty quickly, though, and there is no smell at all even if I use them for a couple of days.
I was against the wall on getting some Merino wool pants or the alpaca wool joggers. I am happy with my decision of going for the Alpaca wool joggers. They are comfy and lock great. I would recommend it to anyone that is trying to make the decision.
