What's so special about 100% Alpaca clothing?

What’s the difference between Alpaca wool and merino wool?

Both are natural fibers that perform well outdoors, and the difference is in how each behaves over a long day. Alpaca helps balance warmth and breathability as your pace changes, keeps moisture moving away from your skin, and resists odor well enough to wear longer between washes. Arms of Andes builds every layer from 100% Alpaca, sourced, spun, knit and sewn in Peru.

Is Alpaca wool good for hiking?

Yes. Alpaca wool helps balance warmth and breathability as your pace changes, which is what matters when you climb hard and then stop moving. It wicks moisture away from your skin, its smooth fibers stay comfortable worn next to skin, and it’s naturally odor resistant, so you can spend long days out with more time between washes. Arms of Andes makes its layers in three weights, from 160 Ultralight to 420 Midweight.

What does GSM mean in wool clothing?

GSM stands for grams per square meter, the standard measure of fabric weight. Higher numbers mean warmer layers. Arms of Andes uses three weights: 160 Ultralight for shirts, underwear and shorts worn next to skin on warm days; 300 Lightweight for base layers, hoodies and leggings on cooler days; and 420 Midweight for jackets, leggings and sweatpants on cold days outside.
