OUR VALUES

At Arms of Andes, we think that all we do should be done with the environment & our people in mind. We recognize that the clothing industry as a whole has often fallen foul to practices that are unethical and unsustainable, which is why we aim to be the most sustainable clothing brand, follow ethical production principles and ensure traceability of our products.

OUR VISION

To lead the way in sustainable clothing production, focusing on human and animal welfare, minimizing our negative impact on the environment.

OUR MISSION

To preserve the traditions of Peruvian Alpaca Wool production, through the manufacture of high quality, functional outdoor apparel, while working towards making completely biodegradable clothing, with a neutral carbon footprint.

WE ARE GUIDED BY THE FOLLOWING PRINCIPLES

WE ARE CARE ABOUT
ALPACAS

Alpacas Roam Free

Alpacas thrive and produce the best fleece when they roam free in the mountains (they are often corralled at night for safety), so there are no factory farming practices involved. Alpacas are raised in small herds, using traditional methods.

Gentle Shearing

Many alpaca are sheared by their owners using shearing scissors, which is generally less stressful for the animals. Our yarn suppliers have also developed a method of mechanical shearing, accepted as the national norm for humane practice; they offer a shearing service to producers and train others in the method.

Alpacas Recieve the
Care They Need

Alpacas are highly valued by their owners, so any injuries and illnesses are treated quickly. Annual shearing is important as it helps to keep alpacas healthy.

WE CARE ABOUT
PEOPLE

Fair Price for Fleece

Our yarn suppliers purchase the raw fleece directly from the alpaca farmers, ensuring that they always recive the market rate.

Working Conditions

We don't use harmful chemicals in our  factories, so workers aren't exposed to health risks.  Members of the Arms of Andes team, spend time in the factories that produce our fabric and garments, making sure working conditions are safe and comfortable.

WE CARE ABOUT
THE PLANET

Low Carbon Footprint

Single sourcing in Peru means almost all our components are produced in the same country, greatly reducing the carbon footprint within the supply chain. We choose yarn suppliers that use solar powered heating systems for water used to wash wool, and have onsite water treatment plants for waste water.

Minimal Chemical Usage

Our yarn suppliers wash alpaca wool with biodegradable detergent. We have used synthetic dyes until now, but our new line is colored with natural biodegradable dyes. Any chemicals (e.g. the wool conditioner) we use are minimally harmful to the environment.

Biodegradable Components

Alpaca wool is a natural fiber and as such biodegrades when in landfill. We use cotton thread for stitching, which is also biodegradable, as are our new dyes. The only non-biodegradable components are the zips, elastic bands, and the nylon in our socks, but we are working to find suitable alternatives.

Eco-Friendly Packaging

We use minimal pacakging when we ship our clothes to you, so you won't find a bag in a box, stuffed with bubble wrap, inside another bag. Instead we use one, biodegradable bag and cardboard hand tags.

one of the best spots to hike

Arms of Andes recognizes that we have to put the people who work with us, the animals that provide our raw materials, and the environment in which we all live, first. We will continue to improve our production and supply chains to ensure fair wages and a good standard of living for everyone involved, as well as ensure we are the most sustainable and eco-friendly outdoor brand.
