Free-Roaming Andean Alpacas

Alpacas roam freely in their natural habitat in the highlands of Peru. Their farmers never harm or kill them for their wool. Alpacas create small footprints that do not damage the fields they graze on. When they eat, they cut the grass, promoting regrowth.

SINGLE ORIGIN SUPPLY CHAIN

Where Was This Sweater Made?

We use natural local resources and a short transparent supply chain. Our mission is to teach you as much as possible about how clothes should be made. Together we can move the fashion industry towards a sustainable future.

Designed & Made in One Country: Peru

Contrary to industry norms, every step involved in making our clothes is done in only one country: Peru, the home of our family. Our production in Peru includes fiber sourcing, yarn spinning, fabric knitting, dyeing, finishing, and garment sewing.

From Peru, our clothes go straight to California or Europe on its journey to you.

Low Carbon Footprint

Manufacturing in one country allows us to greatly reduce our carbon footprint and freight shipping. This is a major step on our journey to becoming a carbon negative company.

Transparency & Traceability

We avoid industrial farming by working with co-op farmers in the Andes. Doing everything in Peru guarantees we know how the alpacas and the workers involved are being treated.

Mostly good

I like it generally but the neck hole is quite small. I wish it were a little bigger. Great quality and feel though.

True Love

This shirt exceeded my expectations in every way. It’s the perfect weight and keeps me warm on the slopes. It was a bit itchy at first but after a few wears and a careful washing, not so anymore. This will my go-to when hiking shoulder season. I ordered size L (145 lbs, 5’7”) and it fits perfectly.

Hi Mary,
We're thrilled to hear that your shirt exceeded expectations and is keeping you warm on the slopes! 😊 It's great to know that it became even more comfortable after a few wears. Wishing you many amazing hikes and adventures ahead!

Great Sweater

Bought this for my wife and she couldn’t be happier with it. Originally bought x-small, which is the size she wears in a lot of outdoor clothing. It fit tighter than she liked so got a small. Armed of Andes made the exchange easy. She is looking forward to getting more alpaca clothing from this company.

Hi Wesley,

So happy to hear she loves it! Glad we could help with the exchange, we are always working hard on improving our service. Hope she enjoys her alpaca gear for many adventures to come!

Really just the best

Every Arms of Andes garment I've bought so far (think its up to seven pieces at this point) is better than anything else in its category I have ever owned.
I love the weight of the fabric, the comfort of the cut, and the layering warmth each offers to my winter wardrobe. They look attractive -- whether sweater, t-shirt, hoodie -- and do the job I need them to do. I only wish I had made more purchases earlier in the season when more size, color and cut variety was available.

Hi there,

Wow, thank you for your amazing feedback! We're thrilled to hear that our garments have become a staple in your winter wardrobe. It’s great to know you appreciate the quality, comfort, and versatility of each piece. We’ll keep working to bring you even more options in the future—hopefully, you can grab your favorites earlier next season!

More akin to a long sleeve tee than a sweater, but a great piece for casual wear

Although arms of Andes calls this a “sweater,” it’s more like a long sleeve tee, in that you wouldn’t wear it over a shirt. (The photo on the website is quite accurate.). That being said, it’s a great piece. In comparison to, say, the alpaca sweaters made by the now-defunct Appalachian Gear Company, which were also wonderful, the fabric of this piece is almost buttery smooth, rather than “wooly.” So it pairs perfectly with either jeans or nice pants for casual wear. It’s super comfortable and quite warm. And it’s a perfect layer under a fleece or a jacket. It’s beautifully made. It would be great to see this in some bold and bright colors—maybe a red?
