SINGLE ORIGIN SUPPLY CHAIN

Where Was This Sun Hoodie Made?

We use natural local resources and a short transparent supply chain. Our mission is to teach you as much as possible about how clothes should be made. Together we can move the fashion industry towards a sustainable future.

Designed & Made in One Country: Peru

Contrary to industry norms, every step involved in making our clothes is done in only one country: Peru, the home of our family. Our production in Peru includes fiber sourcing, yarn spinning, fabric knitting, dyeing, finishing, and garment sewing.

From Peru, our clothes go straight to California or Europe on its journey to you.

Low Carbon Footprint

Manufacturing in one country allows us to greatly reduce our carbon footprint and freight shipping. This is a major step on our journey to becoming a carbon negative company.

Transparency & Traceability

We avoid industrial farming by working with co-op farmers in the Andes. Doing everything in Peru guarantees we know how the alpacas and the workers involved are being treated.

Amazing hoodie & they got everything right!

I am an avid backpacker, trail runner, and Appalachian Trail (AT) section hiker that has completed over half of the AT over the last few years in various types of fabrics including alpaca wool from the now out of business Appalachian Gear Company (AGC), merino wool from various companies, plus many other styles and types of clothing & sun hoodies. I can definitely say that alpaca wool is by far my favorite fabric. Previously, I was wearing the AGC alpaca sun hoodie, but, after trying Arms of Andes (AoA) sun hoodie, I'm calling their hoodie an upgrade over all other hoodies I've tried -- it's the best! It's an amazing hoodie & they got everything right!:
● Overall fit: their "functional fit" (a.k.a. slim fit) is what I would call an athletic fit on me & it is exactly right -- tight'ish but moves on the body well with its natural stretch. For context, I'm 5'8" 145lbs & wear men's size small, & this is the best fitting sun hoodie I've ever owned. Naturally stretchy & keeps it's shape even after backpacking for several days with it
● Sleeve length: sleeve length can be a pet peeve of mine, & this hoodie's sleeves are perfect -- long enough to keep my wrists covered with my arms extended outwards, but not too long (i.e. no extra fabric bunching on my arms)
● Hood: great hood design -- hood depth is perfect & the opening is not too big or small, & there is no pointy top like other companys' hoods sometimes have
● Feel: feels soft & comfortable against skin
● Fabric: durable/tough material especially compared to merino wool
● Weight: ultralight at 160 grams (5.6oz) on my scale
● Sun protection: I know this is not a rated hoodie; however, neither were any of my other hoodies that also protected me from the Sun "A-ok" just by virtue of having coverage over my skin.
● Performance / additional comments:
- Wicks moisture away from my skin & beads up on the outside of the hoodie; mist is not absorbed into the fabric (mist also beads-up on the outside); and, of course, any heavy drenching rain will saturate the fabric, like it will with any fabric, but it dries in 20-35 minutes or less. Also, I'm not too hot or cold in it compared to other fabrics, & I think I'm more comfortable in it in hot/cold conditions versus other fabrics. It wicks water away better than merino wool, & at least as well as synthetic fibers, although I think alpaca has synthetics beat in this category too, especially with this 110-featherweight-weight hoodie. I think it is even better than the Brynje/Norwegian mesh base-layers from an overall performance standpoint (plus it looks a lot better!!)
- It doesn't smell even after over a week of strenuous backpacking. 100% alpaca hoodies like AoA's sun hoodies will essentially never smell -- compare this to polyester, nylon, and spandex that will smell rather terrible after as little as a day or two (even merino wool garmets will eventually smell sooner than 100% alpaca because merino wool is usually blended with nylon and/or polyester which will retain odor).
- It looks great on & I would feel like I looked good in it wearing it virtually anywhere, outside or inside
